    **Position Purpose:**

  • **Position: Seasonal Children’s Camp Medical Director**

    **Time: 5.5 weeks**

    **Reports to: Camp Director**

    **Salary Range: $800 - $900/week x 5.5 weeks**

    - Reports to: Board of Directors’ Camping Program Committee

    **Position Purpose:**

    The Camp Medical Director evaluates and treats campers and staff for minor injuries and illnesses, supervises and ensures implementation of medication policies and procedures at camp, keeps a log of Health Center visits, gives supportive advice to counselors and other camp staff if requested, and identifies health problems serious enough to require a physician’s attention.

    **Essential Job Functions:**

    - Caring for the medical needs of campers and staff at Camp

    - Oversee the health and wellness of approximately 35 campers and 15 staff

    - Conduct initial health screening of all campers and staff

    - Provide medical attention to campers and staff with general health concerns and document in the Health Log

    - Distribute and record camper medications

    - Maintain Health Center records and medical forms

    - Supervise health and sanitation at children's camp

    - Maintain camper's confidential medical history

    - Oversee initial health screening of campers and daily health surveillance of camp occupants

    - Handle health emergencies and injuries, including emergency preparedness and provisions for professional healthcare

    - Maintain camp's daily medical log

    - Report required incidents to local health department within 24 hours

    Qualifications (Minimum qualifications and experience)

    • At least 21 years of age

    • Minimum of: − one season of previous experience as a camp Waterfront Director at a New York State camp; or − two seasons of previous experience consisting of at least 12 weeks as a children’s camp lifeguard which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time; or − 18 weeks of previous experience as a lifeguard at a swimming pool or bathing beach, which had more than one lifeguard supervising it at a time.

    • Hold an accepted and current cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate as listed on the Fact Sheet entitled “Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification for NYS Children’s Camps and NYS Bathing Facilities”

    • Annually review and document the review of the camp’s safety plan for swimming.

    Essential Job Functions:

    A camp aquatics director must oversee all swimming activities that occur at swimming pools and bathing beaches operated as part of a children’s camp. This person shall supervise lifeguards and other required staff during swimming activities and implement the camp safety plan.

    1. Plan, direct, and supervise a safe and fun waterfront program

    • Write (with the help of life guards) lesson plans that meet camp goals

    • Evaluate aquatic abilities of campers and staff

    • Deliver creative swim and watercraft program activities

    • Assess Campers Swimming Ability per evaluate bather swimming ability using standards and criteria

    • Categorize campers’ ability as either a non-swimmer or swimmer. A record of each camper’s swimming evaluation including the camper’s full name, date of test and their assessed ability will be maintained at the camp.

    2. Train and supervise waterfront staff

    • Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training

    • Train waterfront and counseling staff in their waterfront responsibilities

    • Verify skills of all waterfront lifeguards

    • Supervise waterfront staff to provide a safe and high-quality program

    • Supervise the waterfront staff evaluation process

    • Implement the scheduling of waterfront staff

    • Directly supervise other aquatic staff

    3. Manage the physical facilities and equipment in the waterfront program area

    • Set up waterfront area prior to and during staff training

    • Teach and monitor proper use of equipment

    • Conduct initial and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment for safety

    • Check equipment, and make (or file for) repairs

    • Conduct a daily check of equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair

    • Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials

    • Survey waterfront area daily, and keep the area free of hazards and debris

    4. Participate as a member of the camp management team to plan, direct, and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions

    • Work with Program Director and Waterfront Specialists to develop a program curriculum, awards programs, and leadership programs.

    • Assist in the planning of any special events on or near the waterfront.

    • Participate in management and staff meetings.

    The camp aquatics director must:

    • At least 21 years of age

Most often the health care and emergency plan outline the relationship between the Health Officer and the Waterfront Director and the waterfront staff for emergency management and care. It is important to maintain clear and regular communications with other staff member to keep campers safe.     **Position Purpose:**

    To further the mission of the camp by providing supervision and ensuring a safe environment at the camp’s waterfront activities. Assist in the management of the physical operation of the waterfront facilities and equipment. Lead campers in waterfront activities including canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding.

    **Essential Job Functions:**

    1. Supervise and serve as a lifeguard at all waterfront activities.

    - Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to help prevent and manage injuries.

    - Provide rescues as needed.

    - Utilize first aid and CPR and other emergency management services as needed.

    - Understand and implement appropriate responses to changes in water conditions or weather conditions affecting the waterfront.

    - Assist Waterfront Director in determining aquatics abilities of campers and staff.

    2. Assist Aquatics Director in program areas such as swimming and boating.

    - Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures while at the waterfront.

    Position Purpose:

    • Camp counselors organize, implement, and lead age-appropriate activities for children and assist other Counselors in their activities. Activities include arts and crafts, sports including swimming, nature study, songs, and team building. Camp counselors are also responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of campers. Camp counselors have a knack for creating an accepting, positive, and wholesome

    environment.

    Qualifications:

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required

    • 1 year of experience supervising and working with children, preferably as a camp counselor or teacher

    • Ability to pass a background check

    • General mobility including, but not limited, to walking, kneeling, and standing, ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds.

    • Proven ability to maintain a safe environment for others in adherence with provided protocol and standards

    • Ability to organize, and lead activities for large groups of children

    • Ensure a group of assigned campers is supervised and safe

  • **Position: Seasonal Camp Cook**

    **Time: 6.5 weeks**

    **Reports to: Camp Director**

    **Salary Range: $700 - $800/week x 6.5 weeks**

    **Camp Schedule:**

    - Prep days before staff training begins

    -Staff Training: June 30 – July 5

    - Camp Season: July 7 – August 10

    Requirements:

    - Must be at least 21 years of age

    - Must have work experience as a cook, preferably in a supervisory role

    - Have the desire and ability to work around children in a fast-paced environment

    - Able to read, write, understand, and communicate directions

    - Able to respond to emergencies

    - Understanding of NYS Department of Health regulations related to food service

    - Have good judgment with the ability to identify problems and find acceptable solutions

    Position Purpose:

    Prepare tasty, nutritious meals meeting the dietary needs for approximately 48 campers and 13 staff for Breakfast, Snack, Lunch, Dinner, and dessert.

    Responsibilities:

    - Prepare and cook a variety of foods including soups, sauces, meats, fish, vegetables, baked goods, etc.

    - Camp Cook would supervise all kitchen operations and staff and volunteers working in the kitchen and serving food.

    - The Camp Cook is responsible to place food orders, maintain the inventory of all food and food related supplies within the assigned expense budget.

    - Work with the Camp Director, Health Director, and Camping Committee to create a menu that meets budget, special dietary needs and schedule.

    - Camp Cooks ensure the proper sanitary preparation of all food items, the cleanliness of the kitchen and dishes as well as associated food serving areas.

    - Notifies sales representatives and the Camp Director of Food Shortages, spoilage, or damage in deliveries.

    - Completes all paperwork accurately and efficiently

    - Sends staff to the health director immediately if presenting symptoms of illness

    - Maintains a clean and neat appearance while on duty

    - Understands and implements NYS Department of Health Standards and guidelines.

    - Cooks are responsible for meals from Sunday dinner through Friday lunch.

    - Arranges for distribution of food through family style serving or through preparing food to be taken off the Camp Property for field trips.

    - Demonstrates proper preparation and cooking

    - Oversees and inspects performance to ensure instructions, procedures and health standards are observed.

    - Camp Cooks may assist the Camp Director with other camp duties such as lost camper searches and drills.

  • Time: 5.5 weeks

    Classification: Seasonal Children’s Camp Assistant Cook

    • Reports to: Camp Cook

    • Salary: $550 - $650 per week

    • Position not required to stay on site.

    **Camp Schedule:**

    - Staff Training: June 30 – July 5

    - Camp Season: July 7 – August 10

    - Reports to: Camp Cook

    • Friday evening through Sunday at noon off.

    Position Purpose: Responsible for assisting the Camp Cook in all aspects of planning, cooking of meals for the camp and for assisting in the cleanup of the kitchen

    Essential Job Functions:

    • Must be able to load/unload/move food and supplies (sometimes in excess of 50 pounds), lift dishes to their storage location, use kitchen equipment safely, operate electrical and mechanical equipment, supervise dishwashing, determine cleanliness of dishes, food contact surfaces, and general kitchen area, and assess the quality and condition of all food

    • Must be able to tolerate long hours of standing and repetitive tasks

    • Ability to maintain personal physical, mental, and spiritual health during a fast-paced summer, and adapt to a constantly changing environment while interacting with many different personalities

    • Ability to thrive with very little access to cell phones, social media and internet, being nourished instead by in-person conversations or times of solitude and quiet.

    • Camp Gregory’s internet access is very limited, meaning access to social media etc. is very restricted throughout the typical camp day. Being able to work for 6 days a week with little to no internet access is crucial.

    Relationships: It is important to maintain clear and regular communications with other staff members and the Camping Program Committee to keep campers safe. In the case of disagreements, personal or work related, please seek assistance from the Camping Program Committee.

    Qualifications:

    • Ability to read menus, weights, and measures and count and multiply recipes for large groups

    • Ability to work well with others

    • Ability to accept supervision as well as take initiative

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Assist the Cook in preparing foods by performing any combination of the following tasks: wash, peel vegetables; prepare poultry and meats; prepare and knead breads; stir and strain soups and vegetables; weigh and measure foods; carry pans and pots; store food, clean utensils and storage areas; distribute food and supplies; supervise the camper dish washers

    • Assist in any area of the kitchen, dining room, or dish room, as requested by the Cook or Directors

    • Take responsibility for meal preparation, as directed by the Cook

    • Assistant Cooks may be asked to share responsibilities in the following jobs. These jobs could be designated by the Cook or Summer Camp Director:

    o Cook's helper

    o Pot washer/dishwasher

    o Pantry and salad person

    o Help unload and store supplies, and help move supplies around the kitchen. Learn "kitchen routine" within the first week and be able to follow it independently

    o These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required.

    Physical Aspects of the Position:

    • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects

    • Ability to stand for long periods of time

    • Work in extreme heat

    • Hear and listen

    • Sit, stoop, kneel, crouch

    • Work with cleaning chemicals

    • Work with noise
